Had a fantastic date here so it holds a place in my heart. The bar staff are great and it has a really friendly vibe. The cinema itself has really comfortable seats too it's like going back in time.

So lucky to have such a historic building for a city centre cinema. The films chosen are varied and diverse but don’t run for too long. Staff have always been so polite and nice there. Membership discounts are decent. Would choose this experience over an out of town multiplex any day!

Used to be a wonderful independent cinema but it is now part of corporate Cineworld. No investment in decent sound system, seats uncomfortable particularly if you are small. Old cinema is charming but cramped foyer leaves customers out in the rain. Staff often unfriendly. I practically lived at the DoY when I moved here in 2000 but now I avoid it. It is also v expensive now (Picturehouse prices). Go to the Depot in Lewes if you want a great cinematic experience.

One of the worst cinema experiences I've ever had. sound quality was awful terrible acoustics and constant sound of rustling plastic and chewing, maybe don't constantly push food and drink purchases at the door and in the ads? Seats all attached to each other so constantly being jiggled with any twitch from someone in our row. Had to leave 20 minutes in as we could hear or concentrate at all! Staff were lovely and friendly though no issues!

Great staff, great bar - you can have a pint, in a glass, in the cinema. Also great snacks, free water. And of course a super stylish venue with a variety of seating. Full scale sound and screen! I have been many times.

The best cinema in town by a long mile! Gorgeous interior, cute little balcony/patio next to the upstairs bar that anyone can visit, and of course an amazing theatre complete with comfy spacious chairs, huge screen, excellent sound system and friendly staff. As with all Picturehouses they have an excellent programme and often have interesting and rarer themed screenings. As there’s only the one screen there you might find slightly less showings compared to Dukes at Komedia but between the two of them you’ll have plenty of options.

It is a lovely old original cinema with larger than average comfy seating with plenty of leg room. The screen's quite small, so it's best to sit in the middle downstairs, but it does have the option of sofas, etc. in the balcony, which is a lovely alternative. Sadly, this Picturehouse suffers from the same malady that afflicts so many cinemas these days, very, very low volume, so you actually have to hold your breath to hear the dialogue. Gone are the days when cinema was an immersive experience. I have no idea why Picturehouse thinks the audience wants movies to be whisper quiet, but nobody I know does, which is why we stay home and crank up our 5.1 systems to do what cinemas don't, and they wonder why they're going out of business...
